The Boreal Waters team is pleased to welcome Dani Hollar as our new Director of Finance.

In this role, Dani will oversee the financial stewardship of the foundation, helping ensure that the charitable resources entrusted to Boreal Waters are managed with care, transparency, and long-term sustainability. Her work will support the foundation’s mission to strengthen our region through philanthropy, partnerships, and innovation.
Dani brings more than a decade of experience in nonprofit accounting and tax services. She began her accounting career at RSM in 2013 as an intern and spent the next 13 years with the firm, most recently serving as a tax manager. During that time, she worked extensively with tax-exempt organizations across the country, including health care systems, public charities, and private foundations.
Dani's deep understanding of nonprofit finance and a thoughtful approach to stewardship aligns perfectly with our mission. Her experience working with charitable organizations across the country, combined with her connection to this community, will help ensure that the resources entrusted to Boreal Waters continue to be managed with care and integrity. That work at RSM gave her a deep appreciation for the important role nonprofit organizations play in strengthening communities.
“I admire the role that Boreal Waters Community Foundation plays in supporting nonprofits, donors, and community initiatives across our region,” she said. “Community foundations have a unique ability to connect generosity with meaningful impact, and Boreal Waters does that work thoughtfully and effectively.”
Dani says she’s especially excited about the opportunity to focus her work on one organization and contribute to its long-term mission.
“During my time in public accounting, I had the privilege of working with many outstanding nonprofit organizations across the country,” she said. “While that work was rewarding, I’m excited about the opportunity to focus my energy on one organization and be part of the full picture year-round.”
Dani’s connection to our region runs deep. She attended the University of Minnesota Duluth — twice — first earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre before later returning to pursue a Bachelor of Accounting.
For Dani, the work of place-based philanthropy is deeply personal.
Meaningful change often begins at the local level. When people invest in the communities where they live, it creates lasting impact and strengthens the networks that help communities thrive. I chose to move back to Duluth because I love this community and the people who make it special. Dani Hollar, Incoming Director of Finance at Boreal Waters
Outside of work, Dani stays connected to the local arts community. She recently rediscovered her love of dance and is taking ballet, modern, and tap classes through the Minnesota Ballet Academy. She also performs with the Duluth Playhouse and other local theatre companies — her first production with the Playhouse was Once Upon a Mattress in 2006.
When she’s not on stage, Dani enjoys traveling with her family, especially trips to Disney World with her sister. At home, she loves spending cozy evenings with her husband playing board games or video games alongside their two cats, Wolfgang and Floofer
