Welcome Morgan Beryl, Director of Strategy and Operations

February 5, 2026

As Boreal Waters Community Foundation continues to deepen our grantmaking, expand local investing strategies, and strengthen how we steward community resources, we’re excited to welcome Morgan Beryl as our new Director of Strategy and Operations, starting February 17.

This newly created role reflects an important moment for Boreal Waters, one where strong internal systems, thoughtful strategy, and values-driven leadership are essential to sustaining and expanding our impact across the region.

President & CEO Shaun Floerke shared, “We had an overwhelming number of outstanding applicants for this role. It was truly humbling and energizing to be in conversation with so many outstanding people from our community,” Shaun said. “After many interviews, conversations, and thoughtful deliberation, we were thrilled when Morgan accepted our offer.”

A Background Rooted in Community Development

Morgan brings deep experience in community development, organizational leadership, and place-based work. She earned a master’s degree in community development from University of California, Davis and has held leadership roles across the country. Roles that include serving as a senior transportation planner for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, community development director for Eagle County in Colorado, and executive director of both the Haywood County Arts Council and YWCA Duluth.

Shaun noted that Morgan’s background stood out not only for its breadth, but for how closely it aligns with Boreal Waters’ mission and moment of growth.

“Morgan brings deeply relevant skills and experience to our work,” he said. “She understands how systems, strategy, and community care come together to create lasting impact. We are excited to have her joining us.”

Why Boreal Waters

Morgan was drawn to Boreal Waters through firsthand experience by interacting with the team, participating in gatherings and workshops, and seeing how the organization shows up for nonprofits and local people.

“What stands out to me is how Boreal Waters invests in everyday needs. Things like childcare and housing, and how that investment translates into real support for communities,” she shared.

As Director of Strategy and Operations, Morgan will focus on aligning internal systems, strengthening organizational infrastructure, and supporting the Boreal Waters team as our work continues to evolve and grow.

“I’m excited to support an already stellar team as they reach new heights,” Morgan said. “Especially as Boreal Waters expands local investing strategies that keep community funds in the community.”

Why This Work Matters to Morgan

As a place-based community foundation, Boreal Waters brings people together to invest in the places they love, build shared responsibility, long-term commitment, and trust across generations.

“For me, this work is about creating legacies that are woven into the fabric of a community’s past, present, and future,” Morgan said. “That shared fabric gives communities the strength to show up for one another in times of great need.”

Outside the Office

Outside of work, Morgan is a lover of nature, animals, and art. You’ll often find her hiking, rain or shine, with her dog, Birdie. As the mother of a toddler, much of her free time is spent playing, reading, and staying endlessly curious.

We’re excited to welcome Morgan to the Boreal Waters team when she officially begins her role in mid-February, and we look forward to the leadership, care, and strategic insight she brings to this next chapter of our work.

As our organization continues to grow, we’re also hiring a Director of Finance to join our leadership team. This role will play acritical part in stewarding our resources and supporting the long-term health of our mission. Click here to view the job description.
