At Boreal Waters, strong leadership and thoughtful governance are essential to advancing our mission. As we look to the future, we are taking a moment to recognize two outstanding board members whose terms have recently concluded and to welcome a new member whose expertise will help guide our work in the years ahead.

As we celebrate the service of our outgoing board members, we are also excited to welcome Dr. Katrina “Kat” Ma’iingan Werchouski to the Boreal Waters Board of Directors.
Kat is a proud member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe, with ties to the Leech Lake and Lac du Flambeau Ojibwe tribes and the state of Jalisco, Mexico. Raised in northern Wisconsin along the shores of Lake Superior, she has dedicated her career to advancing equity, inclusion, education, and leadership development.
Kat currently serves as an Impact and Innovation Education and Training Specialist and Diversity Consultant for the Minnesota Department of Human Services and is a Senior Partner at Peak Perspectives LLC. She holds degrees from Northland College, Green Mountain College, and a doctorate in Education from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. Passionate about Indigenous cultures, inclusive leadership, and human-centered learning, she also serves on several regional boards and enjoys music, travel, and time by the water.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Pat Heffernan for six years of dedicated service on the Boreal Waters Board of Directors, from 2020 through 2026.
Throughout Pat’s tenure, he contributed his time, expertise, and leadership across multiple areas of board governance, helping to strengthen the organization's operations and strategic direction.
Pat’s commitment to thoughtful stewardship and effective governance has left a lasting impact on Boreal Waters. We are deeply appreciative of the wisdom, professionalism, and leadership he brought to the board and are grateful for his many contributions.

We also want to thank Sakib Mahmud for serving on the Board of Directors from 2023 through 2026.
As a member of the Finance and Audit Committee, Sakib provided valuable insight and oversight that supported the organization's financial health and accountability. Sakib’s contributions helped ensure that Boreal Waters remained a trusted partner and responsible steward of the resources entrusted to us.
We are grateful for Sakib’s service and dedication!
